The useful life of a photovoltaic solar panel system

Alicante is a region that enjoys many days of sunshine throughout the year and therefore it is logical that most people would trust local companies in the area to be able to make the most of all the benefits of having a solar system with these kinds of characteristics.

The operational life of a photovoltaic solar panel system

As a general rule, a solar panel system can produce energy for more than 20 years. This has been demonstrated by a study carried out by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory on more than 2,000 systems of these characteristics installed in different countries around the world in recent decades.

Although it is considered that there is a duration of about 20 years of useful life of a photovoltaic solar panel system, there are cases in which the duration is quite longer. In fact, there have been cases in which industrial plants have had systems operating for more than 40 years.

Under normal circumstances, solar panels have a guarantee offered by installers of about 10 years for mechanical parts and 25 years in terms of performance. Different studies reveal that there is a performance degradation which is reduced by 10% after 10 years and by 20% after 25 years.

Basically, it is reduced by around 0.8% per year, although, thanks to the latest technological research in this field, that average will be reduced little by little, which will give this class of device a longer operating life so you can make the most of its full potential.

The implementation of new materials and techniques means that this class of device has a longer duration period, which, added to the reduction in the price of solar panels, will mean that more and more people will decide to have this kind of solar system in their home and/or business.
